Casale Upupa is situated in the Sabine Hills and offers splendid views from both the patio and swimming pool. This holiday house in Lazio is surrounded by wonderful gardens that are laid out as parco naturale with a huge variety of trees, shrubs, plants and flowers.

The casale is built from local stone and traditional materials have been incorporated, such as ancient roofing tiles, chestnut beams, doors, window frames and shutters.

Furthermore, a great deal of attention has been given to the finishing. The walls have been decorated using an ancient stucco romano technique, and each room has a different colour. The kitchen fittings are made of wood painted in traditional green, surrounded by hand-made Neapolitan tiles.

In the upper part of the property is the owners' house, which is rented out in summer. It has with a separate entrance, garden and own pool; your privacy is not compromised in any way.

Surroundings in the north of Rome

Casale Upupa is situated in the heart of the rolling Sabina region. This is a region where time has stood still, a part of Italy still to be discovered. The Sabina landscape is characterised by the many castles crowning the hills. The rich cultural and historical heritage is reflected in the architecture, the decorations and the frescos. The castles are surrounded by medieval villages famous for their architectural value (Tarano, Montasola, Casperia, Roccantica, Collevecchio). Traces of a centuries-old culture can also be found in the Franciscan shrines, of which there are so many that this area is sometimes referred to as “The second home of St Francis”. Just as important are the abbeys and monasteries; Abbazia di Farfa and the Santuario di Vescovio are particularly worth a visit.

History
Sabina is located in Lazio to the north-east of Rome. It is named after the Sabines, an ancient tribe that lived in this area before Rome was founded. The rape of the Sabine women is a well-known legend. The Romans were said to have kidnapped Sabine women in order to produce offspring for the new city. Many Sabine deities and cults developed in Rome and many parts of the city, such as the Quirinal, were once Sabine.

Near Rome
Casale Upupaa is situated in Lazio on the border with Umbria, 60 km to the north-east of Rome, and can be easily reached via the Autostrada del Sole (A1) from both the north and south (see map). The centre of Rome is just forty-five minutes away by car, and there are plenty of parking possibilities in the car park under the Villa Borghese. There is also a direct train link from the nearby station at Stimigliano to the centre of Rome. During the day, you can enjoy the cultural attractions, shop in the Via dei Condotti, enjoy a drink at the Piazza Navona, eat at one of the many restaurants in the Trastevere district, and return to the calm and clean air of the Sabine Hills in the evening.

Points of interest
In addition to Rome, there are various other attractive towns and villages within an hour’s drive. To the north: Orvieto, Narni, Bagnaia (Villa Lante), Bagnoregio, Caprarola and Todi. Towards the coast: Viterbo, Tarquinia (Etruscan archaeological site) and the splendid lakes Lago di Bracciano and Lago di Bolsena. To the south, Tivoli (Villa d’Este and Villa Adriana), Castelgandolfo and Albano are certainly worth a visit.
