A good part of the Apennine mountains have now been turned into natural parks. Pack your picnic, put your walking boots on and set off. You will enjoy the diverse flora and may find yourself surrounded by poppies, edelweisses and wild tulips, to name but a few, or spot a buzzard, badger or red squirrels, all part of the enchanting and rich wildlife. Dramatic limestone gorges and concealed grottos are also worth discovering and you may want to visit the Grotta Grande del Vento, the largest cavern in Europe.
