Casa Winther is a modern villa in Umbria for guests who want to combine peace, nature and Italian food culture. Set in the countryside near Castel Ritaldi, the villa is surrounded by rolling hills, olive groves and wide views of the Umbrian landscape. It is an ideal place for families and groups of friends looking for a private villa with pool and memorable culinary experiences.
The house is owned by a Danish family and combines contemporary architecture with a calm Scandinavian sense of style. Bright interiors, natural materials and carefully selected design pieces, including Vitra chairs and Artemide lighting, create a relaxed and elegant atmosphere. From the rooms, terraces, garden and pool area, guests enjoy wide 360-degree views over the Umbrian hills, with the Apennine mountains visible to the east.
A stay at Casa Winther is not only about the house itself, but also about sharing good food and special moments together. On request, guests can enjoy a private chef dinner at the villa. Tiziana or Thomas prepare dinner directly at Casa Winther, with menus arranged according to the guests’ wishes. Dishes may include pasta, risotto, lasagne, meat, fish, vegetables, truffles, desserts or barbecue. It is a relaxed way to enjoy an evening at the villa without shopping, cooking or organising anything.
The cooking classes at Casa Winther are another highlight. Together with Tiziana or Thomas, guests can learn how to prepare dishes from the Umbrian and Italian culinary tradition. Handmade pasta, local specialities, sweets and cakes can all be part of the experience. The cooking class is suitable for adults, families and groups of friends, turning a holiday day into a shared experience of cooking, tasting and eating together.
Further food-related experiences can also be arranged. One of them is a truffle hunt with dogs, as Umbria is one of Italy’s important truffle regions, especially for black truffles. The experience can be combined with a typical lunch including a truffle dish, wine and water. Wine lovers can also visit nearby Montefalco, famous for Sagrantino and Rosso di Montefalco wines.
The large private swimming pool measures 14 x 7 metres and includes a shallow children’s area of 4 x 4 metres. The pool area is fenced, making the villa particularly suitable for families with younger children. The pool is heated in an environmentally friendly way through a solar system, which can gently increase the water temperature in sunny weather. The pool is usually open from early April until the end of October.
The spacious garden surrounding the villa offers plenty of room for relaxing, reading, playing and dining outdoors. A sauna with views of the countryside is also available. Facilities include WiFi, Apple TV, Bluetooth speakers, flat-screen televisions, a Nespresso coffee machine, washing machine, dryer, two fireplaces, a wood-burning stove, two barbecues and a table tennis table. Thanks to its architecture and design, Casa Winther is also part of the Urlaubsarchitektur community.
Besides cooking and food experiences, other activities can be arranged on request, including horse riding near Trevi, a Vespa picnic in the Umbrian hills, rafting on the Nera River and private transfers to restaurants, wineries and airports.
The village of Castel Ritaldi is about 4 km away and offers a bar, restaurant and grocery store. Spoleto, known for the Festival dei Due Mondi, is around 15 km from the villa. Assisi, Perugia, Orvieto and Rome can also be visited on day trips.
Casa Winther is a modern villa in Umbria with pool, perfect for guests who value privacy, panoramic views and authentic Italian cooking experiences.

This is what a returning guest says about Casa Winther:
"Thank you for letting us rent this beautiful place.
This was our third stay at Casa Winther, and once again, we thoroughly enjoyed it. The property is nestled in peaceful and picturesque surroundings, and the moment you step out of the car, you feel the stress melt away. A car is definitely necessary, and with it, you can explore the charming mountain villages nearby. We truly appreciate the area – the small towns with cozy restaurants serving exquisite food, delicious wines, and warm, welcoming service. We've visited in June, July, and September, and each season has offered its own unique charm.
Casa Winther itself is full of character, combining authentic Italian architecture with elegant Danish design. From Tolomeo lamps and Hay bedlinen to Charles Eames dining chairs, the attention to detail is impressive. There are several outdoor seating areas perfect for enjoying a quiet moment with a book, sunbeds by the pool, and Fiam chairs under the grape-covered pergola. Whether dining indoors or outdoors, there are plenty of lovely spots to enjoy a meal.
Giovanni came by daily to offer his services. Although we wish we spoke his language, he was always friendly and discreet. He kept the pool and grill area spotless and even provided olive branches for barbecuing – a thoughtful touch.
Thomas, the owner's representative, was incredibly attentive and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. He helped us arrange a wine tasting at a nearby winery, which turned out to be a memorable experience thanks to the charming hostess. He also gave us a tour of the olive oil factory where he works – not something included in the stay, but a generous gesture that reflects his dedication to making guests feel valued.
As a welcome gift from the owners, we received fresh flowers, a delicious selection of local cheese and ham, and a bottle of wine – a lovely surprise. Extra towels and bedlinen were available in the laundry room, along with rechargeable outdoor lamps for long evenings outside.
All the bedrooms are spacious and serene, contributing to the relaxing atmosphere. The pool is perfect for a morning workout or a refreshing dip during the day, all while enjoying the stunning views. We believe it's an infinity pool – and it certainly feels like one. This year, we were also pleased to find six quality bikes with helmets available for use. The sauna was unfortunately out of order, likely due to a stormy night, but we hope it will be up and running again for our next visit."
