Casa Sandra is about 2 kms from the village of Cisternino, once an important Messapi town, and on one side the town looks onto the valley called Valle d'Itria and on the other onto the coast. The Messapi were an ancient tribe living in Salento before the arrival of the Greeks and the Romans. The houses in the old town centre have a typical eastern look, and are a classic example of "spontaneous architecture", where there are no architects following a pre-arranged plan, only a series of interpersonal relationships to be established. The complex of buildings stands on a rise with a beautiful view of the coast about 10 kilometres away, and consists of a central building with two round 'trulli', the wonderful farm buildings that have become one of the symbols of the Puglia region. The garden is perfectly furnished, with a swimming-pool for the exclusive use of guests and some relaxation areas. The interiors have been completely renovated and equipped with all the main conveniences: central heating, dishwasher, and washing-machine; the furnishings have been purposely kept simple to bring out the original architectural features. On request a cooking service of typical local dishes can be arranged in the evening. The Valle d'Itria offers several opportunities for trips to attractive nearby towns: Ostuni is 10 kms away, Martina Franca 11 kms, Locorotondo 9 kms, and the aiport at Brindisi is 50 kms away.
